Have you ever tried to meditate and thought I can’t do this? Have you ever tried to sit in a quiet space and turn your mind off for an hour? Have you ever thought I’d like to meditate but don’t know if I can or if I’m doing it right? If you have said yes to any of these questions I’m here to tell you there is hope. I have been here and gave up more than once. It wasn’t until someone explained to me that meditation when you start out is not sitting in a quiet space trying to keep your mind quiet for 60 mins, it can actually consist of 1-2 mins at first. When I heard this I let out a big sigh of relief and immediately said “What are you talking about?”. Yep this is true, if you are new to meditation sitting in a space for 1-2 minutes quieting your mind is actually meditation. People that can sit and meditate for 60 mins or longer have been practicing meditation for years and years this is not something that happens after a few times. If you find that you start meditating and after a few times think I can go longer, than go longer slowly increase your time increments and before you know it you will be meditating like a pro. There really is no right or wrong way to do this, just as long as your not thinking about next weeks to do list or work or the kids. Maybe you are thinking and focusing on your favorite place, maybe a beach, the smell of a cup of coffee in your hands anything that relaxes your mind just go for it! I hope this helps to start your meditation journey or start to try again.
